NOW THE REAL QUESTION: Is our FULL METAL Generation III diaphragm better than our Plastic Generation II? JBL thinks a metal casting is better otherwise they would use plastic instead of metal. The Full Metal casting costs 10 times as much as the plastic. The Full Metal casting is attached to the dome which is attached to the voice coil. The Full Metal casting will dissipate heat MUCH BETTER than the plastic. The Full Metal casting should allow the diaphragm to handle more power. This is most likely the reason JBL opted for the Full Metal casting rather than Plastic.
