I just received my first order of ES58's. I had my wife, who is a singer and bass player, listen while I compared an ES58 to a Shure SM58, and a Carvin M68. I eq'd them flat on the channel, at the same gain setting on the mixer, and flat on my outboard eq. She was able to tell which was which, but found little difference between the Carvin and the GLS, which she both preferred over the Shure. The Carvin, at a package discount rate cost $60 each, which I thought was a great deal compared to Shure until I found the GLS 58. I preferred the GLS slightly over the Carvin, and my wife preferred the Carvin, slightly, over the GLS. However, she conceded the difference was so minimal that the value of the GLS made future buying decisions a no-brainer....GLS!!!! Don't be a brand snob, and go with what performs, and saves money! My wife has been in bands since the 80's, and I have been running sound since the 90's. We are both elated to have discovered GLS mics. I will be trying the 57's soon. I also got some of the GLS 25', and 6', XLR cables and am thrilled with the quality for the value. Far too much of this equipment gets lost (walks away), or beat up at gigs, to spend too much just for a name!

Of course I had my doubts, as I'm sure most people do when they first hear about the GLS Audio ES-58 AKA "The Shure Killer". I've been in the industry for over 30 years. About 5 years ago I head the buzz about the GLS Audio ES-58 and ES-57. I've been using them ever since. I've probably purchased close to 100 by now. I've done thousands of shows and never had a failure. I've had many stolen, but never had 1 fail. They definitely sound better than the Shure SM-58. I've stopped using my Shures all together. The GLS give a better performance. Hands down! I've turned many many people onto them and can't rave about them enough. Incredible buy for and incredible mic. Trust me, if you have any reservations, don't worry, you have nothing to fear (except fear itself). I've also used them for studio recordings and micing drums (ES-57). Buy Buy Buy! :)

Put this mike on stage for first night without letting soundman know about the switch, he never noticed. At the end of the night he was surprised to find it was not the usual SM58.
