I was hunting down banana plugs and found these. I thought they might not be very good quality, but was very surprised when I received them. They are very high quality. The price is unbeatable. Most plugs I was looking at were at least twice as much and some were a ridiculous 10 times as much. Take my word for it, these are great. |

I was totally expecting something like a cheap Chinese knockoff of the WBT brand this connector emulates, with poor plating, but I was immediately and very pleasantly surprised that these are pretty much 99% identical to the WBT plugs. I'm not a plating specialist or chemist or engineer of any kind, so I have no clue whether these are metallurgically identical, BUT, when you can get 24 of these for the same price as only 1 of the WBT, who cares? (Really, you don't need to spend $50 per connector.) Now that I think about it, it may be that the OEM of the plugs for WBT just decided to capitalize on a difference in dimensions and materials to drastically lower cost. I'm ok with that.
Unless you are running a $50,000+ system, there's no point in spending anywhere close to what you spent on the core components of your hi-fi or home theater setup. These connectors are simply for ease of connection and therefore convenience, and aesthetic appeal. Did they make my speakers sound any better? No. Did I use an oscilloscope or any other measurement instrument to check? No. I used my ears, because I'm not some poof wasting money senselessly on crap that does nothing to improve sound. I simply wanted some better looking connectors they were easier to deal with when moving my system. They work great!
It would be nice if these folks here offered a similar crimp sleeve kit to help ensure a solid connection to the plug and wire. Not a huge deal, but I'm knocking off one star because I want them to get around to doing that, even if it is JUST to show up WBT. Also, I'd love to see them come out with a kit that's only 25% of the cost of the WBT Crimp kit that runs for $250 which is just absurd. I'll be recommending these plugs to friends and other folks too. Get cool plugs AND don't make the wife angry? AWESOME. |

I bought these items to "re-connectorize" the back surround speaker cabling in my home theatre system. At just 1/24 the cost of some other locking bananas I had previously purchased, these connectors are a whale of a bargain, work extremely well and exhibit a high level of build quality. Although they hold larger gauge wires extremely well, I personally would recommend that smaller gauge wires be terminated with WBT-style crimp sleeves to provide an added level of confidence when securing to the ends of the wire. Incidentally, although it doesn't really matter, my 24-pack consisted of a single pack of 20 connectors with screwdriver and an additional baggie of 4 connectors.

I purchased a 24 pack about 2 weeks ago (May 2011) somewhat skeptical of the claims made. I must say I am now convinced that these are one of the best banana plugs in the market. The 2-crew system makes sure that the wire stays in place, and the locking mechanism also insures that the plug stays in its place. Also the build quality is excellent. I am very satisfied.

Don't Use for 18 Gauge Speaker Wire! (9.9.2009)

The listing here says these work for 18 gauge, but it's almost impossible to get the little screw to lock down well enough to hold the wire in place. If you screw it tightly, it just falls through inside the plug. The locking mechanism is a nightmare, in light of this, because you have to remove them constantly in order to fix the wires which have come loose. I have a mostly-built home entertainment piece in the middle of my livingroom because I know I'll never be able to put the components inside with the wires staying put and once the components are inside, you can't rewire the speakers. I'm going to spring for some heavier gauge cable, which I wasn't planning on. What a disaster! Unless you plan on never moving your amp more than an inch in any direction, don't buy this.

These plugs work perfect with all of the speaker wire we sell, including 18 gauge. Unfortunately some wire brands are not actually the gauge they say on the wire. For instance, some brands of 18 gauge might actually be 21 gauge, and so on. If this is the case with the wire you chose, then their so-called 18 gauge might be too small. But if you buy true gauge wire (like the wire we sell) then the plugs work perefectly.
